These standards describe how Read The Fine Print reports, explains and corrects its work.

Sources

We link primary documents wherever possible: filings, official statements, product documentation, court records, research and data releases. When we rely on reliable secondary reporting, we identify it as secondary reporting and link to it. Each article lists its sources and what each one supports.

Evidence and interpretation

We separate what a source shows from our analysis of it, and we label analysis. A prediction, an allegation or a company’s own claim is not treated as settled fact; we attribute it to whoever made it. Where the evidence is incomplete, we say what is missing.

Corrections

We correct substantive errors visibly. A corrected article carries a dated note explaining what changed. We do not silently reset publication dates: when an article is materially updated, it shows the update date alongside the original publication date.

Commercial transparency

Read The Fine Print does not carry advertising, paid placements or affiliate links. If we introduce a paid relationship or an affiliate link, we will disclose it next to the content it affects.

Images

We use images we own or are licensed to use, and we credit them next to the image. Illustrative and archive photographs are labelled as such: a picture of something general is not evidence about a specific company, event or person. If we use AI-generated imagery, we label it, and we never present generated imagery as documentary evidence.
